The General Chapter of the Sisters of St.Charles Borromeo: New Leadership Team

The General Chapter 2018 of the Congregation of the Sisters of St.Charles Borromeo founded by Rev. Fr. Adrien Bresy at Wez – Velvain, Tournai diocese, Belgium in 1684, took place in their Generalate at Kamba village Kalyan West, Mumbai, India from 15th January to 2nd February, 2018. The 35 capitulars of the Chapter shouldered the tremendous responsibility of discussing, deliberating and discerning God’s will on the theme “Incarnating God’s Mercy towards Global Solidarity”.

A Triduum of Silence, Prayer and reflection ushered them in to the General Chapter proper. The capitulars were enriched in the pre-chapter sessions with the apt topics to get the depth knowledge of the theme of the Chapter. Most Rev. John Rodigues the Auxiliary Bishop of Bombay, enlightened the Assembly on 16th January 2018, on the subject Mercy and Solidarity citing the Church documents. Most Rev. Felix Machado, Archbishop of the Diocese of Vasai dealt on the topic, Inter – Religious dialogue, on 17th January 2018.
The inaugural Eucharistic Celebration was presided over by his Eminence Oswald Cardinal Gracias on 19th January 2018. He shared with the Assembly his expertise and experience on the importance of the General Chapter for the congregation.

At the elections Rev. Sr. Alena Fernandez was elected as the 29th Superior General of the Congregation. The four General Councillors elected were Sr. Chrisine Vas, Sr. Preethy Joseph, Sr. Virgie and Sr. Josphine Nirmala. We thank the Lord for His immense mercy and bountiful love which thrusts every apostolate of the congregation towards Global Solidarity.
