Asia-Oceania Meeting of Religious: Rangoon, Myanmar March 2017

On the first day of the gathering delegates from different Asian countries presented a brief account of the environmental challenges facing their countries and how their governments and religious women and men are responding.

The participants reflected on these presentations and focused on transformative action. On the second day Fr. Samuel H. Canilang CMF from the Institute of Consecrated Life in the Philippines presented a Biblical- theological study on Mercy, Care of the Earth and Religious Life. On the third day there was a rich presentation from a Myanmar environmentalist, Ms. Ju who is a writer who uses her writings to promote ecological citizenship and to show how “deep ecology” awareness can be a way of living.

It was constantly pointed out during these days that all religious traditions focus on the beauty and mystery of the cosmos and that we need to uncover this focus in our traditions and to take action.
