Sisterhood Works: United States

Sister Janice is a member of the Sisters of St Joseph of Baden, Pennsylvania. She began her journey of service to Latino people in Brazil: while she was missioned there, Sister Janice taught community organising skills and how to think critically about power structures, oppression and political engagement. Back in the USA, she worked for decades as a religion teacher and principal at Catholic elementary schools.

Today, Sister Janice is the founder and Director of Civic Engagement at Casa San José, a small Pittsburgh organisation that advocates for and empowers Latinos by promoting integration and self-sufficiency. Here, she helps families to negotiate the minefield of immigration policies and connect with the jobs and services they need.
